LOOMSTATE: opening reception

LOOMSTATE

an exhibition by The Weaving Mill featuring new textiles, prints, and the premiere of Loomstate, an experimental animated film made in collaboration with Selina Trepp

Sunday, September 27, 2026 -  Sunday, December 13th, 2026

Chase Gallery at Epiphany Center for the Arts
201 South Ashland, Chicago IL

Opening reception: Sunday September 27, 2-5pm

LOOMSTATE refers to the condition of a fabric as it comes off the loom: warp and weft just recently interlaced, a system of relationships between vertical and horizontal just established. The piece isn't finished but the terms have been set. The fabric coming off the loom feels like the end of something, and it is. But it's also a beginning. Weaving is a line and also a loop.

LOOMSTATE asks us to see the reality of a cloth, but differently animated; to see the difference between subtle and gross movements; to see the actions and objects that accumulate around and contribute to the cloth itself. Cloth as starting point and ending point. Or just a point.
