Wool Window Blanket
Wool Window Blanket
At TWM, we have a full wall of east-facing glass brick windows. They look out onto the alley behind the building and get unobstructed light throughout the day. It wasn’t until this blanket design was finished that its likeness to its surroundings came clear. Each little design decision seemed to have only one right answer and by the time all the little decisions were added up, a blanket emerged which rearticulated the space in which it was conceived and produced.
The wool in these blankets is all naturally-colored Navajo-raised Churro and Churro-cross. There are a lot of things in the wool industry that make it difficult to find yarn representative of the many beautiful shades of sheep. The main issue is that all wool that is not White is called Black. Which means that most of the wool in this blanket, if it hadn’t been purchased in a large volume and sorted by color by Teddy Varndell in the shed outside Cowtown in Gallup, NM several summers ago, would have been shunted into the ‘black’ pile and turned into the insides of major league baseballs.
