The Weaving Mill is an artist-run industrial weaving studio in Chicago. We make projects of our own, textile and otherwise, that respond to the practice of running a small industrial mill. We design and make fabric in collaboration with other artists and designers. Working with people of diverse textile experience, we aim to fill the space between the hand and industrially made and bring the mechanics of textile production into wider view.

In partnership with social services agency Envision Unlimited, we provide textile education workshops for adults with developmental disabilities. We host an experimental artist residency program designed to give artists working in diverse media access to studio space and to encourage collaboration between visiting artists and the artists of Envision Unlimited.

Today, the Weaving Mill team consists of Emily Winter, Kendall Schauder, Alexa Kudrak, and many and varied friends and supporters. TWM was founded in 2015 by Emily Winter and Matti Sloman, taking over a facility previously operated by the Chicago Weaving Corporation.
